Super Bowl Monday

Yes…I know most of you reading this are like, is she crazy…the Super Bowl is always on a Sunday!  Well yes that is true for you Americans, however this year I was in Germany for the Super Bowl!  That means with the 6 hour time difference…my Super Bowl Festivities were on Monday!  Now that we got that cleared up…lets talk about the Super Bowl Experience in Germany!  As many of you may know, German football is Soccer…therefore not too many of them are interested in American Football or the Super Bowl.  Half of my friends here had never even watched it!  Luckily, our friend Adrian is on an American Football team and his team organized a Super Bowl Party at Euro Palace…a club near Wiesbaden.  Anyway, we got on the train and headed there at 9.  We finally got there after taking a train and 2 busses.

We were excited about the “American Style Buffet”…unfortunately it wasn’t that great.  It wasn’t exactly what I would call American.  The first time we went thru the line…there was like this steak type looking thing but it wasn’t steak it was like pork or something idk but it was white meat.  It tasted disgusting and it was cold!  They were all out of burgers but had a huge stack of buns.  They had this cold potato salad stuff but not American potato salad.  It was like sliced boiled potatoes in some thin white sauce with a few spices or something.  Then they had chicken nuggets, now I guess that was American.  But the one thing I wanted was hot wings!  You can’t have a Super Bowl Party without hot wings!  There was one left in the pan when I got there.  However, after trying it…I realized it wasn’t a hot wing! =(  It just looked like one and it was just some type of BBQ sauce or something barely glazed on the outside!  I was very disappointed.  We went back later for the burgers and luckily they had some, but then they were out of buns…and when they finally got buns, they were freakin’ out of cheese!  It was ridiculous.  I don’t know if they weren’t expecting that many people or what, but it was not good service or food.

Anyway, on to the more important part, we found some seats and got ready for the game.  Nasha and I talked our friend Jonathan into buying us shots to kick off the game with.  Then we sat down and began to watch the game…only to realize that of course…its in German!  We couldn’t understand like a single word!  And the worst part…no American commercials!  All stupid German commercials!  The only good one was the David Beckham one!  Anway…we were able to watch the game, and even though it was in German, we still could see what was going on!  Nasha and I cheered and screamed and clapped with every play that helped the Giants!  I think everyone in the bar thought we were crazy, but nope just crazy Americans who love the Super Bowl!  lol  There was this guy sitting next to us that we started talking to, he was in the Airforce and he insisted on buying Nasha and I drinks.  Then when the game was almost over and Nasha was in the bathroom…he asked me out!  I was like shocked…really?!  I mean this guy was like 40!  I wanted to scream OMG NO!  But I didn’t…I just made up an excuse that I am too busy with school.  From then on, it was awkward sitting there and I was dying for Nasha to get back.  She finally got back and our hearts were pounding as the end of the game was nearing!  We jumped and screamed when the Giants made that last touchdown!  It was amazing!  Nasha had been like freaking out and I was all calm down its ok they can do this, just believe.  And guess what?! I was right!  They won! Yeah Baby!

Anyway, by the time the game was over it was about 4 am or so…so we had a little over an hour to wait before we could go catch the first bus.  We sat around half dead trying to stay awake.  We had been all excited before, but once the game was over we were ready to crash.  The dj finally started playing some decent music, so we went and danced for a little while and finally it was time to head to the bus stop.  We were walking to the bus stop and Nasha and I were a little behind the rest of the group and this old guy in a car offered us a ride to Wiesbaden…we were all no thanks and caught back up to the rest of the group!  Finally we made it back to the train station, but then we had to wait half an hour for the next train back to Oestrich-Winkel.  We got to my house at about 7:15 am!  All in all it was a fun night, but once we got home I was ready to pass out.  I helped Nasha get off to school; unfortunately she had a presentation that morning so she got ready at my house.  She was afraid if she went home, she might fall asleep!  She left for school and I jumped right into bed!

Slumber Party

Saturday night we had a girls night…or at least that’s what we had planned!  The girls showed up at our house around 7.  We began eating the junk food that everyone brought to share…then we went to open the wine.  Only one problem…no corkscrew!  Ahh!  We tried youtubing how to do it without a cork screw and couldn’t find anything usable!  So I made the mistake of putting it on my status that we were having these issues.  So our German friend Norman was like I have one…I can be there in a few minutes!  I was so shocked by his response that I didn’t even say anything back.  A few minutes later I had a message that we was downstairs.  I had to go let him in…and when I got back upstairs everyone was hiding in Diana’s room!  Everyone thinks that this guy likes me.  They thought it was funny to leave me alone with him…I of course found them and drug them back into my room.  Anyway, he opened the wine for us! Yay!  We figured he would have a glass and chat for a minute and then leave.  I was talking to his best friend on facebook and the guy was like hey is Norman still there and I was all yeah.  I think they had plans or something and he called him like 3 times, but still Norman just stayed.  All the girls were enjoying asking him random questions about German stuff.  Some of us on the other hand were getting tired and wondering when he would leave.  Finally, after 2.5 hours of this Q&A session, he decided to go.  We then were able to hop into the giant bed we created and start the movie.  However, half of us fell asleep before it was over.  Anyway, we woke up the next morning still laughing about the night before.  I made French toast for everyone and then they all headed home.  Diana and I tried watching the movie again but ended up falling asleep!  After we woke up, we started it again and third time was a charm…we were able to finish it!  All in all it was a fun night.  But we learned a good lesson…Germans don’t joke, they take everything literally! Don’t forget it! lol

Schnitzel

So my posts got out of order…I was so excited about the Mexican fiesta that I forgot to tell you about the Schnitzel we had! Thursday night our friend Norman to us to this local Schnitzel place for some good old fashion German food!  It was funny because Norman and my buddy Philip were trying to translate all the different types of Schnitzel into English and it was quite difficult.  First we started with drinks; I ordered the sweet white wine that Norman suggested; it is famous in this area!  It was very good!  It didn’t have that bitter after taste like a lot of wines do!  Then we moved on to the food!  They had everything from Hawaiian to Parmesean to Cordon Bleu!  Finally we decided what we wanted.  I got the Schnitzel with mushrooms and onions!  It was freakin’ delicious!  They put this like cheesy, buttery, mayonnaise on top that is difficult to explain.  It was odd, but tasted so good!  And this place is very reasonably priced!  I only paid 11.50 Euro for my plate and wine!  And I had enough Schnitzel left for lunch the next day!  We can’t wait to go back! =)

Fiesta

Tonight was soooo much fun!  Diana and I cooked some Mexican food and invited all the Mexican guys over plus Phillip and Norman!  It was great!  The food was soo good and the company great!  We had so much fun!  It was super cool! That quote was for my man Norman! lol Anyway we hung out and chatted forever!   Then we got ready to go this bar called Keller!  Norman told me I was way over dressed for a bar like that, but I told him I looked cute, so it was all good! lol  I like this one cuz its actually not that expensive! =)  I tried little tastes of several different German alcohols it was interesting what they enjoy drinking!  They have this shot called the Krabbeldiwandenuff!  It kinda tastes like Jager mixed with Tabasco Sauce…so disgusting and spicy! lol Then this guy Christian wanted me to try this clear German liquor…it wasn’t the best, but not quite as bad as the Krabbeldiwandenuff! lol Anyway, all in all we had a fun night hanging out and getting to know new people!  It was fun and can’t wait to do it again! =)

Salsa: Take 2

Last night was my second time at the Park CafĂ© for Salsa Night!  It was so much fun!  First I danced a little with Ricardo.  Then the class started and it was pretty simple for me this time since it was the same lesson as last time.  However, there is still one turn that I cannot get down!  You like spin and then your hand ends up behind your head and the guys is like around the back of your neck.  It’s hard to explain, but I always mess it up and get my arms all tangled up!  Anyway, during the part of the class when we had to partner up, there was a guy beside me and this old lady tried to grab his hand and he just looked at me and I pointed at him and then me and was like we’re together.  And then the lady left and he was like thank you!  So not only did I save him from dancing with this crazy old lady, but I got to dance with a cute guy that actually knew how to dance!!!   It was great! Better than last time!  Then after the lesson I was sitting at the table, and this German guy looks at me and acts like he wants me to come over and I pointed at myself and was like me?  And he was like yea.  So I went over there and of course he starts talking in German I was all I speak English…in English again of course! lol Oops!  I keep forgetting to try to say it in German!  Luckily he knew a little English.  And we danced to like 3 songs and he was spinning me like crazy!  I was soooo tired!  But it was a lot of fun!  I love dancing!  I can’t wait to go back on a different night!  They play different types of music each night!  The only bad thing about the night was walking home from the train station in high heels in the freezing cold!
